Electro Technical officer (ETO) Coaching

This 17-week residential conversion course is designed for graduates from specific disciplines to prepare them for roles as Electro Technical Officers in the Merchant Navy. Approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India), it serves as a pathway for Electrical & Electronics Graduates to enter the Merchant Navy.

The curriculum encompasses fundamental aspects of marine engineering, marine electrical systems, fire prevention and safety technology, and marine electronics systems. Electro Technical Officers are responsible for inspecting all electronic and electrical equipment on board ships to ensure operational safety and efficiency. They collaborate with officers from both the Deck and Engine departments for support regarding electrical and hydraulic technology. Their duties include managing power distribution systems and maintaining various ship areas such as reefers, lifts, and electrical bus systems.

Typically, a minimum of 50% marks in English language in either the 10th or 12th standard is required for admission. However, DG Shipping allows admission of candidates for the ETO course who did not achieve 50% marks in English at the 10th or 12th standard but attained 60% in Diploma and 50% in Degree courses, provided the medium of instruction in the Diploma/Degree courses is English, subject to meeting all other eligibility criteria and medical fitness standards.

Eligibility Criteria:

– Qualification:

  – Three-year Diploma with 60% marks or four-year Degree (including lateral entry) with 50% marks in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication, Communication Engineering, or Electronics and Instrumentation, or an equivalent qualification. The diploma or degree courses must be recognized by any State or Central Government or the AICTE.

  – Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or equivalent vocational education course, along with English as a separate subject, achieving a minimum of 50% marks in English language at the 10th, 12th, or Diploma/Degree level.

– Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years at the time of course commencement.

– Passport: Mandatory at the time of course commencement.

Medical Fitness:

– Candidates must be in good health and physically fit for sea service as per STCW 95/MS Medical rules 2000 and all applicable amendments for seafarers.

– Candidates will undergo a comprehensive medical check-up conducted by our Panel Doctor approved by D.G. Shipping.

Eye Sight:

– Distance vision (unaided): 6/12 in each eye; or 6/9 in the better eye and 6/18 in the other eye.

– Normal color vision.

– Candidates will undergo a complete eyesight test administered by a Company Medical Officer.
